Back to School...business as usual

It sucks! Summer was entirely way to short!

Where did it go? Didn't school just end?

We did manage to go to the beach one more time on Wednesday.

Every year right after 4th of July, Target

starts to put out the school supplies. I always

get that panic/anxiety feeling...just knowing

that school is not that far away.

The past few years I have been emotional

the last weeks of August. I could start bawling

like a baby over pretty much everything.

This year we must have been too busy.

It didn't hit me until Wednesday night.

I know, I know...most parents are kicking their

heels up with joy at the thought of back to school.

Not me! I LOVE having Jakob home for the summer.

He loves his teacher and his class. Thank God!

It seems like he is going to have a wonderful and fun year.

Everyone that I talk to says that his teacher is so nice and

does so many fun things. I am excited for this year and I

will be back to my non-emotional self in a few days.

Crumbling Wreck of a Concrete Ship


















Cape May Point, New Jersey


The scarcity of steel during World War I forced America to build ships out of a counterintuitive substitute -- concrete.

The S.S. Atlantus was one of a dozen concrete ships that were built, and it criss-crossed the Atlantic several times, hauling cargo and troops. But when steel again became available, the S.S. Atlantus was mothballed.

In 1926 she was docked in Cape May when a storm broke her loose and ran her aground, just off of Sunset Beach. She couldn't be pried off of the bottom because she was made of, well, concrete. For the last 80+ years her slowly crumbling hulk has been a tourist attraction, although not much of her is left to see.

My mom and I have been talking about going to Cape May Point, Sunset Beach all summer.
You can dig for Cape May "diamonds" and get to see the cement ship.
I can remember going there in 2nd grade for a field trip.
It was neat to find the diamonds.

Flash forward 32 years later...





















Still pretty cool. The digging part was neat.
We found a lot of beautiful stones.


But the water was FILTHY dirty and the beach smelled REALLY bad!
You had to be really careful because you only had about 2 feet of
sloping beach before it dropped off into the sea. If you fell in you
would be gone forever.

And oh yeah...the beach is almost all stones.
















We saw a mom screaming at her son to "let go of his sister!"
She was yelling and yelling at the boy. Then DUH! pretty scary
stuff...the kids were drowning! The mom finally realized this
and had to go out and save them. I can't believer that
anyone would swim in there on purpose! It is where
the Atlantic Ocean meets the Delaware. There are Oil
tankers, ferrys, Cruise ships, boats, boats and more
boats in there. It was fun watching all the ships go
past, but you couldn't pay me enough to take a swim
in there.










Brinsley and Jakob had a fun time. Everyone stayed happy and I took some cool pics.
